Among them, there is one you can’t miss to see, overlooked d’Aquino street, one of the main walks of Taranto. What are "pettole"? Let's discover this traditional food, which is a symbol of Christmas period in the area of Taranto. Pettola . A little pillow of soft and hot dough. You take it from a corner with the tip of your thumb and your index finger: it’s fresh of frying, you know it’s hot, but you’re willing to risk for it. You bring it to your mouth and bite it, curling your lips not to burn them at least, and “crunch”. The thin crust doesn’t oppose: you sink your teeth in its soft heart.  Everything happens while your mother tells you off because you stole a pettola just taken off boiling oil and see your face writhing in the battle against heat in your mouth. It may not be easy to find leaves turning yellow, red and orange in Apulia , but woods can offer other sights in this warm region as we can discover venturing in   Sant’Antuono wood . When you think about typical autumn landscapes , Apulia is not exactly the first place that comes in to your mind, least of all Murgia tarantina . It’s not here that the foliage gives the best of itself and, let’s say it, temperatures are not exactly those that we would expect in autumn.   August 15th is a day that Italians traditionally spend on a day trip. Here 5 suggestions to take a day trip in Apulia on "Ferragosto". What are you going to do on August 15 th ? Maybe you don’t know why I’m asking you this question, but in Italy this is a particular day. It’s a feast day and this question become a mantra a bit for everyone. We think about what to do, where to go, how to spend this day. Traditionally Italians spend it having a day trip . For this blogpost, I thought about some places where to spend August 15 th near my home place, Massafra, near Taranto, in Apulia . I took the map and analysed the neighbourhood and that’s the result. I talk about the  Bosco delle Pianelle  when I suggest where to spend Easter Monday or Ferragosto; I recall it when I talk about my childhood, well, it’s a place that is a dear for me. It’s a natural shelter for the inhabitants of the area who want to enjoy some time in nature, without going too far. Actually, besides the picnic area, there are some  paths  that go into the wood.   Visitiamo uno dei tesori della Puglia, la Basilica di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria a Galatina: una vera galleria d'arte in una delle chiese più importanti del Salento. Io ho un debole per le antiche cattedrali . Non sono semplicemente dei luoghi di fede, ma hanno svolto un ruolo fondamentale   nel corso dei secoli. La costruzione di una cattedrale o di una basilica era un segno della devozione nei confronti della Chiesa, sì, ma soprattutto un modo per manifestare il proprio supporto al papa. Più si spendeva per rendere una cattedrale ricca e maestosa, più importante era l’impegno tra il committente e il Vaticano. Ecco perché molte cattedrali e basiliche sono dei veri e propri musei ed ecco perché a me piacciono così tanto.   Negli ultimi anni mi è capitato spesso di andare a Manduria , ma mi sono sempre fermata fuori dalla città, nelle campagne, nel bosco e al mare. A mia discolpa posso dire che ci sono sempre andata nel mese di agosto, quando il caldo della Puglia tende a far svuotare le città verso aree più fresche. Visitare Manduria con 38°C non è esattamente allettante, ma mi ero ripromessa di tornarci con una temperatura più accettabile. Quel momento è arrivato il mese scorso e adesso colgo l’occasione per proporti un walking tour per il centro storico di Manduria, perfetto da fare in autunno . Una passeggiata nel bosco alla ricerca delle testimonianze della civiltà agraria in Puglia Read in English Non è la prima volta che lo nomino. Parlo del Bosco delle Pianelle quando consiglio dove andare a passare Pasquetta o Ferragosto; lo rievoco quando parlo della mia infanzia, insomma è un luogo a cui sono particolarmente legata. È il rifugio naturale per un po’ tutti gli abitanti della zona che vogliono concedersi un po’ di tempo nella natura, senza andare particolarmente lontano. Infatti, oltre all’area pic nic, ci sono più sentieri che si addentrano nel bosco. È sempre un po’ come giocare al piccolo esploratore quando decido di andare a fare una passeggiata “alle Pianelle” e prendo un nuovo sentiero, perché nonostante ci vada sin da piccola, non posso dire di conoscere tutti i sentieri.

  Cosa fai a Ferragosto ? Ecco la fatidica domanda che, appena si avvicina il 15 agosto, diventa un mantra un po’ per tutti. Siamo lì a pensare a cosa fare, dove andare, come passare questa giornata, che la tradizione ci vede rigorosamente in gita . In questo mese, in cui mi sto concentrando più sulle bellezze che circondano Massafra, la mia città, ho pensato a delle proposte per passare il Ferragosto vicino casa . Ho preso la cartina della Puglia e ho analizzato per bene il circondario ed ecco il risultato. I luoghi che ho scelto e ti propongo distano al massimo un’ora di auto da Massafra, così, se ti trovi da queste parti o magari vivi qui, potrai farci un pensierino anche tu. Anzi, fammi sapere se già li conosci e ci sei stato! Ecco 5 posti, tutti pugliesi, dove andare in gita e passare il Ferragosto . 1. Il folclore è la saggezza popolare tramandata di generazione in generazione. Rappresenta l’insieme di tradizioni e di credenze che caratterizzano un popolo, tanto da diventare il simbolo di una regione in particolare. Pensa, per esempio, ai Leprecauni per l’Irlanda: sono una parte imprescindibile nell’immaginario collettivo di questa nazione e della sua cultura. Eliminando i folletti taglieremmo via una fetta importante dell’identità della terra color smeraldo. Il coronavirus ha bloccato tutti. Restiamo tutti a casa , aspettando che questa pandemia finisca e ci restituisca la libertà di uscire e vivere le nostre vite insieme. Chi viaggia ha dovuto fermarsi, rimandare tutti i progetti, annullare prenotazioni e posticipare visite. Non possiamo fare altrimenti. Anche io avevo tanti progetti, tanti viaggi su e giù per la Puglia e l’Italia, che sono stati rimandati a data da destinarsi. Come spesso si sente dire, capisci il valore di qualcosa quando sei obbligato ad allontanartene e mai come in questo momento ce ne stiamo rendendo conto.
