An Autumn Walk in Sant'Antuono Wood

Going for a walk in the wood in autumn , looking for the most beautiful foliage with the warmest and the most vivid colours that the nature chooses accurately from its palette, is an unmissable activity to do during this season. It may not be easy to find leaves turning yellow, red and orange in Apulia , but woods can offer other sights in this warm region as we can discover venturing in   Sant’Antuono wood . When you think about typical autumn landscapes , Apulia is not exactly the first place that comes in to your mind, least of all Murgia tarantina . It’s not here that the foliage gives the best of itself and, let’s say it, temperatures are not exactly those that we would expect in autumn. Still, here you can find some natural heavens to dive into the atmosphere of this transitional period. Don’t you believe it? Keep reading and then tell me if I’m wrong. Leggi in italiano

Traces of agrarian civiliziation in Bosco delle Pianelle

Going for a walk in the wood looking for the witnesses of agrarian civilization in Apulia Leggi in italiano It’s not the first time that I name it. I talk about the  Bosco delle Pianelle  when I suggest where to spend Easter Monday or Ferragosto; I recall it when I talk about my childhood, well, it’s a place that is a dear for me. It’s a natural shelter for the inhabitants of the area who want to enjoy some time in nature, without going too far. Actually, besides the picnic area, there are some  paths  that go into the wood. It’s always like playing the  little explorer  when I decide to go for a walk in “the Pianelle” and I take a new path, because even though I’ve come here since I was a child, I can’t say that I know all the paths. Besides my personal relationship with this wood, what makes it so particular is its history, the  link between the territory and human beings ; you can meet the traces of this relationship following the paths.

An excursion in Basilicata: San Fele Falls

It’s October. In Apulia,  this year autumn is getting shy and is not felt yet but for the fresh breeze that moves the curtains as soon as the sun sets. With this nice weather I barely remember that summer has been over for a while, but maybe some other excursions in nature , typical of summer period for me, could be organized. As for example, the one I made in August to San Fele Falls in Basilicata . I knew about this place by chance, when some friends published on their social profiles some beautiful photos of the falls. Being a lover of woods Lucan, surely I couldn’t make this discovery pass unnoticed and in no time the excursion was organized.

Pollino to be discovered

Versione italiana Sometimes you need to put a distance between you and the chaos of the town to recharge yourself, to delete the stress that, inevitably, everyday life brings us to stock. According to me, the best way to do so is to dive into the nature. So, periodically, I make a trip in the woods of the National Park of Pollino , usually staying in the part of Basilicata. Not always the final destination is clear: we get on the car with destination Park of Pollino and drive along the Basentano motorway. In front of you several different landscapes run: the sea, then the dry and stark riverbed of the Basento, reduced to a little river during summer, and in a distance mountains with their woods. Then you go up and up, dealing with the hairpin turns that hug the mountain. At a certain point you find yourself plunged in a greenish half-light, surrounded by oaks, rocks covered by musk and breath the lively air that makes you forget about the heat of Southern summer.

A bit of refeshment in Palermo: The Botanical Garden

Versione italiana This summer, suddenly blown up, is making us gasp here in Apulia. Sometimes a bit of  wind blows and  it seems to give you a bit of relief, until you realize you have welcomed with open arms a rush of warm air.

A jaunt on Renon mountain

Versione italiana     Version française Mountain paths What do you think when someone talks to you about Bolzano ? Dolomites, bilingualism, a town with an excellent organization and unmissable opportunities. I thought the same until I have been there.  Indeed, it is as written above, but I would never thought that, once out of my house, I would have had the possibility to spend a day plunged in the nature without going too far from the town.  Well, yes, Bolzano lives in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature. If this centre of South Tyrol misses something in the field of cultural tourism, surely it regains with the natural and the sport one: you cannot leave Bolzano without a good jaunt on mountains Heidi-style. The mountain you can reach the most easily is Renon mountain. You just take a cable car and in few minutes reach  your destination. Along the way, unless you have no head for heights, turn and look what you leave behind: ...
