A walking tour along the streets of Dervio. An ideal itinerary to discover this idyllic corner of Lake Como in a few hours. There are some places that you want to visit because you give them an sentimental value. You can feel them close to you even though you’ve never visited them, maybe because your origins come from there. The more time passes the stronger that ideal link gets, until you visit that place and give a real image to those stories you’ve heard throughout life. This is what happened between me and  Dervio , on  Lake Como , my mother’s place of origin. All my life I’ve heard about it    and wanted to visit it on person. At last that moment has come. It’s been a too shot visit for me, but, it’s enough until the moment I’ll be back there. An itinerary to visit Oria in Summer and to attend one of the most known events of the town. In this walking tour we'll discover and get lost among the beauties of the old town centre of Oria In the past, it was among the richest and the most important centres in the area of Brindisi. Frederick II built one of his castles here, in order to control better his territories in  Salento . It’s  Oria , a little town that caught my attention with an event that is held in the second week of  August , an event that calls all re-enactment and medieval joust lovers. I’ve been in Oria for the first time because I was attracted by this celebration, the Torneo dei Rioni (the tournament of the districts) and today I suggest you a little itinerary , a walking tour , to be added to this event, to dive in a highly engaging medieval atmosphere that you can breathe in the alleys of the old town centre. A little itinerary to visit Benevento in a day. In this walking tour in the old town centre, we will see some of its symbol and discover the traces of Lombards, who made the town one of their outposts. There’s always a particular and personal reason that  brings travellers to visit a specific place, a determined town.   Negli ultimi anni mi è capitato spesso di andare a Manduria , ma mi sono sempre fermata fuori dalla città, nelle campagne, nel bosco e al mare. A mia discolpa posso dire che ci sono sempre andata nel mese di agosto, quando il caldo della Puglia tende a far svuotare le città verso aree più fresche. Visitare Manduria con 38°C non è esattamente allettante, ma mi ero ripromessa di tornarci con una temperatura più accettabile. Quel momento è arrivato il mese scorso e adesso colgo l’occasione per proporti un walking tour per il centro storico di Manduria, perfetto da fare in autunno . Attraversiamo Porta Sant’Angelo per entrare nel centro storico di Manduria e iniziamo con il nostro walking tour.

È il luogo più a est d’Italia, la porta verso l’Oriente. Fiorente città marinara, era tra le più importanti di Puglia per il commercio con il resto del Mediterraneo al punto che gli stessi Romani la inserirono nelle loro arterie di comunicazione. Oggi è un importante centro turistico che incanta con la sua bellezza e ricchezza culturale e naturale. È Otranto .

Come dico spesso, la Puglia si presta a essere una destinazione perfetta per tutti. La sua varietà offre la possibilità di soddisfare ogni interesse. Col l’itinerario di oggi voglio portarti in una cittadina molto carina, in provincia di Bari, dove poter passare una mezza giornata all’insegna dell’arte e della cultura : Conversano . Il suo centro storico è uno scrigno di piccoli tesori. Ecco dunque un piccolo itinerario per passare una mattinata di sole in un giorno d’inverno, passeggiando per le vie del centro storico di Conversano.

Christmas has definitely come in Valle d’Itria . Old town centres are filled with illuminations , which become real tourist attractions. Lately, creativity in decorating towns, old centres in particular, has increased to the point of offering each year real works of art that brighten not only tourists who choose this part of the world to spend the last moments of the year, but also those who live it daily. I’ve wanted to propose here on the blog an itinerary in the old centre of Martina Franca from a while. Seen   the period and the illuminations already on display along the alleys, I’ve thought a little itinerary in the dressed up old centre. I suggest it for an evening walk, with the crisp air that cools your nose, but not so cold to make you stay at home. An itinerary not just for those who don’t know the area, but also for those who, like me, live little far from Martina Franca and want to enjoy a little taste of Christmas.

Today I propose you an small itinerary in Matera . It’s not an itinerary to discover the European Capital of Culture 2019 , but something more modest, relaxed, to be followed in a sunny and not too hot afternoon, like those that we are living here in the South this year. The itinerary is guided by Salvador Dalì exposition hosted in Matera until the 30 th of November. I know, an exposition and an itinerary seem not to be linked together, yet they are. Even though the most of the exposition is inside the complex rock-hewn of Madonna delle Virtù and of San Nicola dei Greci, some colossal works are around town and are the stops of this itinerary around the Sassi of Matera .

I’ve started to know Bari when I was at the university. Studying tourism, my academic path included experiencing Bari from a tourist point of view. In this way I discovered the major attractions of this town. Since then I’ve walked many times in Bari with friends who actually are from Bari and others who didn’t know the town at all. In the latter case I was their guide and I noticed that I suggest always the same itinerary to those who are in Bari for the first time in order to give them an overview of the town. This is a two-day itinerary of Massafra , a little town near Taranto, in Apulia. You can visit Massafra basically whenever you want, thanks to its beautiful weather, but I suggest to prefer spring and late summer, especially for this itinerary. It’s a ravine that divides the town in two parts: on one side there’s the historical centre and the castle; on the other side there’s the new part of the town. A gluten free itinerary along the East coast of Sicily. Where and what to eat in Catania, Taormina, Ortigia and Noto tasting some typical Sicilian food safely for coeliacs. At the beginning of August we’ve gone to  Sicily to see some friends who moved to Augusta. We knew that they would have guided us in a tour of their place and obviously made us taste some typical products. What we didn’t know was that, in reality, it would have been a real culinary tour with steps to check off. Obviously, they knew about my celiac disease , but it wasn’t a problem at all. I’ve always thought that it’s not necessary to make long journeys to define yourself a “traveller” or to make great discoveries. On the contrary, it often happens that staying near your home you can be surprised by what you meet. Every day life makes you forget that around you there is so much to discover and to learn and sometimes it’s good to venture yourself with the eyes of a tourist in places that you “know”. I’ve passed through Gioia del Colle so many times while going to Bari since when I attended university until nowadays and just recently I managed to visit it and to give a name to those monuments the I saw from the road.   And to think it’s just a half an hour by car far from home. The historic centre of Gioia del Colle dates back the 9 th century and still nowadays it keeps its original conformation. Every month I’ll suggest an itinerary you can follow or to which you can take inspiration. In March, I am going to guide you in Germany with a short four-day itinerary in Bavaria . Taking as our base the capital city of this Land, Munich , I suggest four destinations you can visit in a day each. The best period to visit Bavaria is definitely summer , in particular in July .
